⚠️GSLP Government needs to account for alarming housing allocation behaviour

The GSLP Government needs to explain why current housing waiting lists are being bypassed.

✍️There are reports of the Chief Minister issuing instructions without any legal authority or documented explanations given. If matters are left as the Report’s findings provide, they give rise to a whiff and perception of patronage and favouritism.

The Principal Auditor has found “no documented policies for the process of allocating Government rent roll properties” and that in 72% of sampled cases the applicants were allocated housing when they were not first on the list and there was nothing in the files suggesting “reasons for allocating the property to these applicants instead of allocating it to someone in a higher position on the waiting list.” This evidence therefore suggests a practice which undermines waiting lists and processes.

📣Damon Bossino said: “This revelation is particularly worrying when many will have, for many years, been languishing high up on the medical and social lists, living in dire conditions, with little hope of being given a flat. It is even more worrying when it is considered that the Auditor has reported on a sample of 25 allocations so that the number of cases is likely to be higher than as reported.
