The GSD has accused the Government of giving a “high-handed and arrogant” response to issues about the administration of justice and mental health services.
The GSD cites the case brought by a doctor against the Health Authority, in which a default judgement was entered after the GHA failed to comply with court orders. It says it’s “nonsensical” for the Government to hide behind the fact the case is ongoing as an excuse to refuse to answer legitimate concerns over administrative failures, especially as the question of liability has already been determined.
It says there is significant concern in the community over mental health, adding if it continues to receive reports of failures within the system, it will raise these issues whatever inconvenience it causes the Government. Shadow Minister for Justice, Daniel Feetham, said the integrity of the system cannot depend on how conscientious, or otherwise, a Government Minister is.
