Government Breach Electoral Promises on Affordable Housing Dates
In what is now fast becoming a tiresome story of further failure to deliver on promised completion dates, today’s Chronicle report provides even more depressing news that the Chatham Views and Bob Peliza Mews developments are facing additional delays.
The Government cannot hide from the palpable breach of electoral promises regarding previously stated delivery dates dating back to the 2015 general election. At that time, the GSLP/Liberals announced the launch of Hassan Centenary Terraces and Bob Peliza Mews, promising to deliver within that term of office, and Chatham Views by 2017.
It is astounding to hear of yet another shift from the last dates provided to Parliament on 23rd November 2023, which were already delayed. In response to a question from Mr. Damon Bossino, the Chief Minister stated that Chatham Views was to be completed in November 2023; this has now changed to January 2026. Bob Peliza Mews, 1st Phase was to be completed in June 2025; this has now changed to March 2026. Furthermore, the Bob Peliza Mews, 2nd Phase, which was initially set for completion in the “second to third quarter of 2026,” now has no definitive completion date.
Mr. Damon Bossino commented, “This whole embarrassing episode would be farcical if it did not impact people’s lives so deeply. The reality is that people have been hoodwinked for far too long. The Government should come clean and apologize to those who have been waiting for their homes, in some cases, for more than a decade. The Government now needs to be frank and open with them regarding when the developments—some of which are also over budget by many millions of pounds—will finally be delivered.”
